Rear extension. Manchester. In design.

Chorlton House — rear extension, Manchester

A Manchester terrace whose kitchen had to reach the garden. One room, three steps, glass the width of the rear.

Chorlton House — model of a rear extension in Manchester, sliding glass to a kitchen-dining room and steps to the garden
The model: sliding glass, a kitchen-dining room, steps down to the yard. Furniture at the scale of the room.

The kitchen stopped short of the garden. The move is one room that can take a table, a sofa and the yard — full-height sliding glass, three steps, no heavy box on the back of the terrace.

Chorlton House — before and after: existing rear of a Manchester terrace, and the proposed glazed garden room
Existing rear against the proposal. Same house, same garden line — a different room.

The model tests the room as lived. The pair of views is the argument: keep the host house, change only the rear wall, make the garden usable. No area or cost is claimed here.
